Wellness can empower: working together to create an accessible screening tool

This presentation shares insights from a cross-disciplinary collaboration between Dance and Physical Therapy Programs at an R1 University resulting in the Dance-Specific Movement Competency Screen (DSMCS). Researchers identified a need for a wellness screening tool inclusive of multiple genres including contemporary modern and African Diasporic dance forms. Collaborating with students, faculty, clinicians, and private sector educators enabled prioritization of accessibility and centering wellness of individual dancers.  In addition to learning about DSMCS, attendees will hear how developing a screening tool amplified dancer wellness through student and faculty perspectives. Presenters hope to promote future initiatives and collaborations between dancers, educators, and medical professionals.
